Jimmy Fallon says BTS’ Tonight Show comeback felt “Unlike Any Other”

Talking about the boy band’s return, Jimmy Fallon exclusively told PEOPLE, “BTS have been part of The Tonight Show family for years, but last night’s show felt unlike any other.” He added, “They always go above and beyond,” highlighting, “taking over the Guggenheim with two knockout performances. It was amazing to witness.”

Moreover, Fallon raved about the way the group keeps raising the bar each time they come back. In that, he gushed, “They make every appearance feel even bigger than the last,” adding, “I have so much love and respect for all of them.” The late-night host also won BTS’ fans over, saying, “And of course, they have the greatest fans in the world. Without the ARMY — it wouldn’t feel complete.”

PEOPLE noted that clips from Wednesday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” episode with BTS pulled in 175 million total digital views across platforms within hours, with the show featuring the group performing “SWIM” at the Guggenheim Museum. Fans got another museum performance on Thursday, when BTS returned with “2.0,” which PEOPLE reported is also filmed at the Guggenheim.

Notably, the week marked BTS’ first U.S. late-night appearance as a full group since completing their mandatory military service, with RM explaining the change after returning to regular life. He explained, “In [the] military, like literally, time stops. Right? Like, time stops. And after it, time just flows by.” The rapper added, “We just can’t believe that it’s been like nine months that we all have discharged.”

BTS’ takeover reportedly continues Thursday night, with Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Ariana DeBose, and Roman Reigns also scheduled to appear.
