While Entertainment Weekly caught Elle and Dakota Fanning separately at SXSW 2026, the sisters proved they always stand by each other. When an interviewer asked about Austin’s unofficial slogan, “Keep Austin Weird,” and what makes Elle weird, the All the Bright Places actor laughed and answered, “Oh, I'm very weird. I think you could ask my friends.” She then added, “You could ask my sister here tonight what makes me weird, and she'll definitely tell you about that.” At the same time, Elle clarified, “But I'm proud of my weirdness, just like Austin is.”
Later, standing between Jake Johnson and Jeff Buckley, Dakota stayed mum on the matter, saying, “Well, I'm gonna keep her secret too. I can't tell you,” before Johnson jumped in with, “What did Elle say about her?” Dakota explained, “No, she didn't. She just said ask me what's her weirdest thing. But I wouldn't tell. There's too many. Too many things.”
