Deborah Ann Woll has played Karen Page for years, and she is returning to the big screen again with Daredevil: Born Again season 2. But even at 41, after all these years, Woll says the bullying she went through as a kid shaped how she saw herself for a long time after. Woll opened up at the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 launch event in New York City on March 23. Without sugarcoating, she revealed, “I was bullied pretty terribly when I was a kid,” adding, “Even to this day, so much of my identity and what I think of myself is formed by those kids.”

At the event, Deborah Ann Woll exclusively told PEOPLE that she still has work to do, but she also sees how far she has come since those years. She said, “While I wish I was maybe farther along than I am, I do think about the fact that I do this job, that I put myself out there, that I'm a parent and a spouse.”
Woll added, “These are all things that maybe that 13 or 14 year old kid wouldn't have believed was possible.” The progress matters for Woll, even when the feelings pop back up, as she admitted, “There are continuing challenges and struggles, but I also feel like I've come a long way.”
Woll returns as Karen in season 2 after her role in the original Daredevil series, along with The Defenders and The Punisher. The new season also brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, with the story focusing on Daredevil fighting back as Fisk holds power in New York.
For this season, Woll teased, “Karen has always kind of existed within the confines of the law, the confines of right and wrong, and I think this is the first year that all of that has been lifted.” She added, “She's constantly pushed those boundaries. Now the boundaries aren't even there, so we get to see how far she will go when no one is stopping her.”
It is a big moment on screen and a reminder for Deborah Ann Woll that the kid who got knocked down kept going anyway.
