Meghan Markle’s latest Instagram posts looks like a love letter to her wedding day, but a royal expert suggests that the two albums of unseen photos have a message for King Charles.
The Duchess of Sussex shared the bumper on her eighth marriage anniversary with Prince Harry, and among snaps of Sir Elton John on piano, her mother Doria Ragland, and the couple dancing, Charles stood out. He was the only royal in the photos, featured in the photos while walking Markle partway down the aisle after her father could not attend.
Meghan Markle's photos with King Charles are a deliberate reminder of happier times, says expert
Ingrid Seward, a veteran royal author, discussed Meghan Markle’s wedding posts with The Mirror and claimed that she directed a message for her father-in-law, King Charles, telling the outlet “Meghan doesn’t do anything without purpose, so she’s sending a message.”
Moreover, Seward claimed, “The message is, ‘We’re still very much part of your family,’” adding, “That’s what Harry and Meghan need because I don’t think they knew when they cut themselves off – with Harry’s book and the Oprah interview – just how alienated they were going to be.”
The images are a reminder of a warmer time when Charles and Markle were close. Seward claimed that Charles was “very caring towards her” and nicknamed her “Tungsten” for her strength, while also seeing vulnerability. As such, the expert explained, “He also thought that if he brought her closer rather than push her away, he would be more in control of anything she might potentially do.”
Charles, for his part, reportedly stepped in gladly. Seward speculated, “He would have been very touched by the fact she wanted him to walk her down the aisle” — yet since then, the relationship has publicly soured — and as the expert suggested, “Charles’s way of dealing with upset is to sort of put his head in the sand.”
Furthermore, Seward surmised that Markle’s wedding day was the “best day of her life, but it’s never to be repeated and the minute the ring was on her finger, the trouble started, so there is obviously secret pain there.” And she observed that the estrangement from her own father, Thomas Markle, might only deepen that pain.
