In a Variety interview that reflects on her career and what she wants next, Nicole Kidman shared a candid detail about filming Prime Video’s upcoming crime series, Scarpetta. Kidman said that the preparation got so serious that she now feels like she could handle the real work.
The Oscar winner told Variety, “I loved the autopsy scenes,” adding, “I can actually perform an autopsy now.” She added, “I don’t have a problem with blood,” and it is the kind of skill she might not have guessed she would eventually have.
Nicole Kidman teases Jamie Lee Curtis fight scene in Prime Video's ‘Scarpetta’
Prime Video’s Scarpetta is a thriller show, based on Patricia Cornwell’s long-running book series, which casts Nicole Kidman as medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. The interviewer, Matt Donnelly, discussed how the show does not stay in one lane. In that, he said, “It’s a ride,” describing how the story can jump from procedural work to tense family moments in the same breath.
And one of those family moments sounds like it will turn into the sort of on-screen showdowns that fans love — a theatrical fight scene with Jamie Lee Curtis — as Donnelly said, “One second, it’s a stark procedural. Then, you and Jamie Lee Curtis are having a drunken family feud in a kitchen.”
For all the action lovers out there, the fights won’t stay verbal, either. Kidman revealed, “Jamie Lee and I have a physical fight in this show. Sisters go at it,” adding that someone told her they could watch the two of them fight “until the end of time.”
In addition to talking about her role, Kidman addressed why it took so long to bring Cornwell’s books to the screen, stating, “It’s interesting taking it out to a true crime audience,” as she noted that she had never done a crime show like this before and that the books come with a strong fan base.
Between the “autopsy” and the fight scene with Jamie Lee Curtis, Prime Video’s Scarpetta sounds like every true crime lover’s dream — and Nicole Kidman went all in.
