Megan Thee Stallion Exits ‘Moulin Rouge!’ Amid Klay Thompson Breakup

Megan Thee Stallion is stepping away from Moulin Rouge! The Musical sooner than planned, ending her Broadway run two weeks early after a stretch that brought her strong reviews as well as a lot of attention. Deadline reported that the rapper announced on Monday that her final performance as Harold Zidler at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre will now be on May 1. She had been expected to stay in the show through May 17. Now that she is exiting early, Stallion did not give a reason for the change.

Megan Thee Stallion ends 'Moulin Rouge!' Broadway run two weeks ahead of schedule

In a statement that Deadline shared, Megan Thee Stallion talked about exiting Moulin Rouge! The Musical Broadway show earlier, stating, “Unfortunately, my last performance on Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be May 1.” Moreover, she called the experience “such an honor.”

She praised the cast and crew for their “dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort” they bring to the production while also thanking fans “for supporting me during this incredible journey!”

The rapper’s run began on March 24 and marked her Broadway debut. It also gave the show a real boost at the box office, as Moulin Rouge! reportedly brought in $872,702 in the week before Stallion joined the cast, then topped $1 million in every week after she arrived. For the week ending April 19, the production allegedly reached $1,663,269.

Notably, her time in the show was not without strain as she fell ill during her March 31 performance, though she returned to the stage two nights later.

Furthermore, the announcement comes after a difficult few days in her personal life. Stallion recently drew public attention after speaking out about her breakup with Klay Thompson, and videos shared online showed her appearing emotional during the curtain call following a recent Moulin Rouge! performance.

All of that gives this early exit a little more weight. And Megan Thee Stallion’s Moulin Rouge! and Broadway run may be ending sooner than expected, but it made an evident impact with star power and ticket sales, giving Moulin Rouge! one of its biggest weeks this season.
