Ed Sheeran and Chris Hemsworth recently tested their strength through an arm wrestling match that has now taken over the internet. The cheeky matchup came ahead of Sheeran’s new tour dates.
Sheeran and Hemsworth have spent years supporting each other in the entertainment industry, and fans know them for their surprise stage performances as well as glowing magazine tributes. Now, the musician and the actor are putting their muscles to the test. The two friends recently sat down for a competitive arm-wrestling match just before Sheeran launched his Loop Tour at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
Ed Sheeran & Chris Hemsworth have a fun arm wrestling match ahead of Sheeran’s Loop Tour
Chris Hemsworth and Ed Sheeran posted the video of their arm wrestling match on Instagram on Thursday. The footage shows the 42-year-old actor and the 35-year-old singer sitting across from each other at a small table, where they have two rounds of intense but friendly battle in the Marvel studio.
In the first round, Hemsworth tried to push Sheeran's arm down, but he visibly struggled. Sheeran just laughed and told the action star, “Do it properly. Go on, go on,” mocking him with, “He can’t,” before winning that round. He then offered to use his other hand for a second match. Hemsworth took control during the rematch, pushing down so hard that the singer started sliding in his seat.
The artwork behind the matchup
A piece of local art actually inspired this real-life battle. Comic book artist Wayne Nichols created a poster for Marvel Stadium showing Sheeran holding a guitar while fighting Hemsworth's Marvel character, Thor, where Thor holds his famous hammer in the drawing. The two friends decided to bring the artwork to life for their fans.
Nichols shared a video of his design process on Instagram, writing, “Ragnarok and Roll!” adding, “I had an absolute blast creating artwork for this epic team-up between the God of Thunder and Ed Sheeran.”
Hemsworth & Sheeran’s friendship
The arm wrestling match is not the first big stunt that Chris Hemsworth and Ed Sheeran have pulled off together. During season two of the National Geographic series Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, the actor learned to play the drums to improve his brain health, spending two months practicing the instrument.
Later, Hemsworth shocked 70,000 fans at Sheeran’s 2024 concert in Bucharest, Romania, by joining the band on stage to play Thinking Out Loud.
Notably, their support extends beyond music and jokes. When TIME magazine added Sheeran to its list of the most influential people in 2025, Hemsworth wrote the tribute piece honoring his longtime friend. Hence, it is clear that no matter which way they choose, Sheeran and Hemsworth know how to entertain their fans.
Sheeran will spend the next few months traveling for his Loop Tour, playing shows on his own terms so he can stay close to his family. Meanwhile, fans will keep watching to see how Hemsworth plans to collaborate with his friend the next time, because the arm wrestling video is just the latest chapter in a fun celebrity friendship.
