While handling a really busy schedule, Zendaya is also dealing with Matt Damon and Tom Holland’s jealousy — and it is all because of Christopher Nolan.
The actor-singer is filming the final season of Euphoria, shooting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and preparing for Dune: Part Three, all while playing the goddess Athena in Nolan’s The Odyssey. But a little moment on the set of The Odyssey might just explain why the actor is so beloved. One word from Nolan, and Damon and Holland were all worked up.
Christopher Nolan's ‘perfect’ praise for Zendaya made Matt Damon and Tom Holland jealous
In an interview with ELLE, Matt Damon revealed that Christopher Nolan does not hand out compliments easily, so when Zendaya received a “perfect,” Damon and Tom Holland knew nothing but envy.
Anyone who has worked with Nolan knows that a simple “good” is about as enthusiastic as he gets. But Zendaya delivered a take that made the British-American filmmaker say “perfect,” and the entire set took notice, including Damon, her co-star, who told ELLE that he and Holland could not stop talking about it.
Damon said, “Tom [Holland] and I were obsessed with this. She got a ‘perfect’? I’ve never even gotten a ‘great.’” He also revealed that they ranted “about it for the entire rest of the film.”
The Good Will Hunting star added that he would walk off set after a take and ask Holland, “Did you get anything today?” and they would both shrug — one got a “good,” the other maybe a “good” as well. Then there was Zendaya, receiving the kind of feedback that felt mythical.
Nolan himself saw something special, telling ELLE that he cast Zendaya specifically for her “iconic” grace and recalled watching her move between massive productions with a stunning ease. He said, “We would be in the maddest, craziest situations, just all of us fighting the elements, tearing our hair out, all these things going on, and she would sort of parachute in from her other job with this sense of true grace and poise.” Nolan raved, “She’s a true movie star, but also an incredible actor.”
Zendaya, for her part, admitted she was terrified of messing up in front of Christopher Nolan — and she did once, calling it “the most embarrassing thing in life” — But clearly, that did not stop her from receiving praise and making Matt Damon and Tom Holland jealous.
